My return to Disneyland

It’s been 34 years since my last trip to Disneyland.  Back in 1979 my best friend had moved to California and a trip out to see him and his family ended with a day at Disneyland.  Since then I have visited Disney World over 25 times and consider myself a Disney expert. I can’t tell you how many people told me since I always visit Disney World that I would be disappointed when I visited Disneyland.  “It’s so much smaller, it is surrounded by a city, the rides are so different” are just a few of the comments I heard.  I wasn’t going to let anyone influence my vacation or put any negative thoughts in my head.  I was 14 years old in 1979 so […]

My Disney Bucket List

So once the movie “Bucket List” came out, there have been several shows that are talking about bucket lists and it seems to come up in more and more conversations.  As I was lying in bed last night with my wife watching the TV show “Bones” the focus was around a man who was completing his bucket list.  After watching the show I had commented on a few things I wanted to add and of course Disney came to mind.  So I put together my top 10 “Bucket List” for Disney. 1.  Stay at least 1 night in Cinderella’s castle 2.  Stay at least 1 night in a DVC Grand Villa at Bay Lake Tower 3.  Parasail at Sammy Duvall’s Watersports 4.  Be the Grand […]

Soar Fear of Flying Course

My wife is a horrible flyer!  Whenever we are scheduled for a flight, her anxiety kicks in and for a few days before the flight you can physically see when she is thinking about flying.  On the day of a flight, she would try to calm herself using prescription drugs and alcohol.  Obviously not the best way to fly!  After the flight landed, it would take her several hours to calm herself once again until a few days before when she would get worked up because we were flying home. Then I found Captain Tom Bunn and the SOAR program.  I’m going to be honest in saying I was very skeptical when I reached out to Tom.  However, as my wife became worse with every […]

Boggy Creek Airboat Rides

I’m not sure if it was the first time I saw an airboat chase on TV or in the movies that I said, “I want to do that!”  This trip I was going to make it happen!  Located about 30 minutes from the EPCOT resorts is Boggy Creek Airboat Rides.  I’ll be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect when I booked this for my family.  The thoughts of an airboat in someone’s back yard, rusted and leaking gas came to mind.  I was pleasantly surprise when we pulled into the driveway to see a professional business! We booked our airboat ride for 9:30am, as I was told the best time to see wildlife is in the morning.  The airboat was much bigger than […]

Traveling with kids 1-5 years old

It’s an age old question (no pun intended), at what age should I bring my child for their first trip to Disney?  I’m probably not the guy to ask, as my little girl (show here) actually took her first steps at Disney! I am lucky enough to be a DVC member, so I travel to Walt Disney World at least once per year.  Since we are a Disney household, my kids grew up on every Disney movie known to man. I’m not going to give you an age, as I believe that is a question only you can answer.  I will tell you this, some of my fondest memories my children probably do not remember.  I do know that they recognized the characters and had […]

Personal Water Craft Tour from Sammy Duvall’s Watersports Centre

I am a huge fan of Sammy Duvall’s Watersports Centre.  There is truly something magical walking down to the docks near the Contemporary Hotel to Bay Lake.  I remember walking down the first time I was able to drive one of the sea racers myself feeling like I was on the top of the world.  As I grew up, so did my taste in adventure which was a natural fit for Sammy Duvall’s! This anniversary, my wife and I decided to take the Personal Watercraft Tour of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon.  For me Personal Watercraft is a fancy name for Jet-Ski!  I was a lot less nervous about this trip to Sammy Duvall’s Watersports Centre than the day we decided to parasail, […]

Make the most of FastPass+

If you are a “plan everything in advance” kind of traveler, than FastPass+ is for you!  If you haven’t been to Disney World in a few years, let me introduce you to FastPass+.  The days of running all over the park (which I loved to do) are over.  FastPass+ allows you to reserve an hour of time to visit your favorite rides or attractions.  Like the old fastpass system, FassPass+ allows you to book a one hour slot of time to avoid a long wait time.  This is all done via the “My Disney Experience” website and app. This all may sound great, but there are a few “catches”. You must be staying at a Disney Resort to take advantage of 60 day in advance […]

Big Changes at the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios

Well if you haven’t been to the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios lately you are in for some big surprises. Construction is finished in the Magic Kingdom surrounding Main St. USA.  As you approach the castle you will notice a beautiful new viewing area for the parade and fireworks.  This area will be designated for fastpass for parades and fireworks, however it is a perfect place to sit down and unwind during the day.  It really does open up the area that became very congested at every time of day.  It will be interesting to see how they manage the fastpass area.  Out inDisneyLand they have a viewing area like this and their are different tiers of fastpasses based on if you had a dining […]

Welcome to WDW Family Tips

Hello and welcome to WDW Family Tips.  My name is Michael Conrad, I have been a freelance writer for over 7 years and a HUGE Disney fan my entire life.  I have been a DVC member since 2001 and you can find me on almost all the Disney Facebook Pages and Chat Boards.  I typically go by the screen name, “Mister Incredible” One thing I notice from being on all the facebook fan sites, is that people seem to be searching for a lot of the same information.  I’m designing this site as a one stop shop for everyone looking for information on Walt Disney World and Disney Resorts. I will encourage people to send me “trip reports” in hopes that other families will find […]
