Welcome to WDW Family Tips

Hello and welcome to WDW Family Tips.  My name is Michael Conrad, I have been a freelance writer for over 7 years and a HUGE Disney fan my entire life.  I have been a DVC member since 2001 and you can find me on almost all the Disney Facebook Pages and Chat Boards.  I typically go by the screen name, “Mister Incredible” One thing I notice from being on all the facebook fan sites, is that people seem to be searching for a lot of the same information.  I’m designing this site as a one stop shop for everyone looking for information on Walt Disney World and Disney Resorts. I will encourage people to send me “trip reports” in hopes that other families will find […]

Kona Country Club

15 years ago, while playing indoor golf on a golf simulator, we were playing a course in Hawaii that had old lava fields for rough surrounding most of the fairways.  It was then I added playing golf on one of these courses onto my bucket list.  I was able to cross this off my bucket list thanks to Kona Country Club located on the Big Island of Hawaii. Kona Country Club was everything I hoped it would be!  The course was challenging, well maintained and had spectacular views.  Located just 6 miles from downtown Kona, Kona Country Club offers top notch facilities with ocean side golf.  In 2016, Kona Country Club celebrated their 50th anniversary!  Designed by William Bell, this course had challenging par 3s, […]

Intimate Dining Experience with Butler Service at the Grand Floridian

I consider myself a Disney Expert.  After all, I have visited Disney World 2-3 times a year since 1990.  I became a Disney Vacation Club member in 2000.  I have stayed at 1/2 star hotels in Orlando all the way up to a grand villa at Bay Lake Tower.  I have done pretty much every tour available, although I still have a few to go.  I’ve visited Disneyland as well as Disney’s Aulani in Hawaii.  So when I read all these blog posts about “Disney Secrets”, “Disney Must Dos” or any “Top 10 things to do in Disney” I chuckle as I have done almost all of them.  My bucket list include things that are virtually impossible like staying in Cinderella’s castle suite, buy a […]

Four Seasons Orlando

So the best thing about having a Disney Bucket List (http://www.wdwfamilytips.com/disney-bucket-list/) is that when you cross one item off, you can add another.  A stay at the Four Seasons Orlando was on both mine and my wife’s bucket list.  We were able to cross that off our list in February 2017! Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort, is located deep within Disney’s prime real estate called “Golden Oak”.  Golden Oak is located just past Fort Wilderness surrounded by prime real estate and the Tranquilo Golf Course. The one thing about the Four Seasons Orlando that both my wife and I noticed right away is the employees.  Everyone we saw from the valet, pool workers, bartenders, servers, front desk, pretty much every employee […]

A day with a VIP Tour Guide

As long as I can remember, I have said, “One day, I will be able to spend the day with a VIP Tour Guide!”  As a matter of fact, almost a year ago, I put it on my Disney Bucket List (http://www.wdwfamilytips.com/disney-bucket-list/)  Well, that day came August 5, 2016.  As we were planning our trip, my wife and I were looking for a special gift for my daughter who just graduated from high school, and her two friends.  We had actually booked the “Ultimate Day of Thrills Tour” (https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/vip-tour-services/) for the same day.  However, as we were planning our vacation, a “magical” email arrived from the Disney Vacation Club!  As we are DVC Members, they were running a special promotion of 25% off the Private […]

Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort

Located just over a mile away from Downtown Disney (err the new Disney Springs) is a hidden gem of a hotel called the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort. I am often asked about off-site properties, and this one just rocketed to the top of my list. With over 1500 acres of land, the Grand Cypress is a blend of luxury and family fun. Built in 1984 as the first resort outside of Disney property, the Grand Cypress recently completed a $75 million dollar renovation. With 815 rooms as well as a combination of 42 executive and bi-level suites, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort has all you need whether you are traveling with the family or on a business trip. In addition to the rooms, […]

Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego

It is well documented that my wife is a horrible flier.  So on our recent trip to Aulani (http://www.wdwfamilytips.com/aulani/) we broke up our long flights to spend a few days in Seattle on the way out and San Diego on the way home. Through one of my other blogs, I have built a great relationship with Hyatt Hotels (http://newenglanddaytripper.com/hyatt-boston-harbor/) so when it was time to book our hotel in San Diego, we headed over to hyatt.com.  The last time we were in the San Diego area, we stayed in LaJolla.  We found it to be a little out of the way, so this trip we decided we would stay in San Diego.  Once we started searching, we found the Manchester Grand Hyatt!  On paper it […]

Ko Olina Golf Course

There was no way I was going to Hawaii and not play golf!  As soon as we booked our trip to Aulani, I started to research golf courses on Oahu.  It just so happens that one of the courses with the best reviews is located just across the street from Aulani.  As a matter of fact, I had a great view of the 10th hole from my balcony on the 12th floor. Ko Olina Golf Club is one of Golf Digest’s Top 75 resort courses in the US.  Built in 1990, this 6,815 yard, (from the blues) par 72, will challenge your game and show you some incredible views! We had a foursome consisting of my son, my nephew, my neices’ boyfriend and myself.  Let […]

H2O Sports Hawaii

If you are looking for a great time on the water, let me introduce you to H2O Sports Hawaii! Located about 45 minutes from Aulani, H2O Sports was well worth the drive.  As their name indicates, H2O Sports offers everything to do with water sports.  You can parasail, jetski, jet pack, banana boat and more! Our trip to H2O Sports started with my son, daughter, nephew and daughter’s friend parasailing.  On Oahu, they offer two different parasail adventures, the traditional 500 foot ride and the extreme 700 foot ride!  My son and nephew opted for the 700 foot ride, while my daughter and her friend opted for the standard ride.  I was extremely impressed with the crew as we started off to the “playground”  After […]

Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa

I was lucky enough to cross one more item off my Disney bucket list (http://www.wdwfamilytips.com/disney-bucket-list/) by spending 8 nights at Aulani a Disney Property.  This resort was everything I hoped it would be and more. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the door with a cool glass of “Hawaii Water” consisting of pineapple, oranges, limes and lemons, and received our Hawaiian Lei.  My daughter and her friend loved this water so much, we had to make a stop every time we passed the lobby (see the hidden Mickey?)!  We were extremely lucky as our room on the 12th floor was ready to go!  We saved some time by using the on-line check-in system, I would recommend doing this at all the Disney resorts. After […]

Traveling with kids 6-10

This is the age where it is no longer about the parents, but about the kids!  The will most likely be able to go on most of the rides.  There are a few rides in each of the parks that you need to be over 40 inches, so the kids will have something to look forward too as they progress through the ages.  What I have learned from this age group is they are very aware of the expectations you set for rides.  For example, I have been on the Tower of Terror with a 6 year old who absolutely loved it!  However, if you are in line telling them how scary the ride can be, their imagination starts to run wild and they probably […]
